The following are some facts and figu
to form an idea of how much money has really been embezzled by the
absconding shroff jp Wai Lam. Owing to some of the counterfoils
being missing, it is impossible to arrive at the exact arount
stolen; so I have confined myself to figures which prove ther-
selves and which are all covered by the Shroff's signature. One of
the missing counterfoil books has been totalled through going over
the whole register line by line, and picking out from the "Henark
Column" the audit numbers. There is no entry in the Register
sufficient to give a clue to the other counterfoils, with the
exception of one amount - $844.68 See paragraon H.
Altogether 17 counterfoils have been found, but 19 or
more were issued. The issus of these counterfoils will form the
subject matter of another report, as the information as to their
issue, received from Mr. Ng at Taipo, is very misleading and
entirely unreliable.
